Project Hail Mary

Project Hail Mary

Middle school science teacher Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) wakes up on a spaceship light-years from home with no recollection of who he is or how he got there. As his memory returns, he begins to uncover his mission: to solve the riddle of the mysterious substance that is causing the sun to die out. He must call on his scientific knowledge and unorthodox ideas to save everything on Earth from extinction... but an unexpected friendship means he may not have to do it alone.

Sheex says: *Project Hail Mary* crash-lands with a disappointing thud, a far cry from the stellar adventure promised. Lord and Miller, usually a reliable duo for quirky sci-fi, deliver a surprisingly inert experience, especially considering the 156-minute runtime. The premise, while intriguing on paper, quickly unravels under the weight of its own ambition. Ryan Gosling, often a charismatic anchor, struggles to inject life into Ryland Grace; his performance feels uncharacteristically flat. Sandra Hüller and James Ortiz, despite their talents, are given so little to work with that any potential chemistry is extinguished before it can ignite. The characters are truly a low point, lacking depth or genuine connection, making it difficult to invest in their plight. Ultimately, the film offers little in the way of engaging entertainment. It’s a tedious journey with a forgettable crew, failing to capture the comedic or adventurous spirit one would expect. *Project Hail Mary* is a missed opportunity, leaving audiences adrift and unfulfilled.
